As part of the CT Office of Early Childhood’s vision for CT’s early childhood system and their Early Start CT initiative, the ECCS became a Local Governance Partner (LGP). We are looking for adults who live or work in Southington to serve as members of our "Community Table." This is defined as a collaborative space that serves as a neutral, inclusive forum where diverse organizations, parents, and stakeholders come together to engage in open dialogue, share insights, and work towards collective community goals. The Community Table is required to meet 6 times a year. The timing varies, and we are meeting at the ECCS office downtown. In spring of 2026 we will be doing a local needs assessment.

On Sunday, April 26th Best Buddies in Connecticut will be hosting our annual Friendship Walk at Dunkin' Donuts Park in Hartford. Registration begins at 12pm and the Walk will run from 1:00-3:00pm. We are expecting approximately 1,000 walkers to join us in support of our mission of acceptance and inclusion for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. This is a family friendly event with participants of all ages joining in the fun! We are looking for individuals to assist with set-up, registration, greeters, parking, and packing up at the end of the event. This activity involves standing and some light lifting (up to 30 lbs), so we recommend wearing comfortable clothing you can move around in.We ask that all volunteers wear school- or casual work-appropriate attire — t-shirts, jeans, and shorts (about 3–5 inches above the knee) are all great options. Senior Transportation Services (STS) is seeking compassionate Volunteer Drivers to help adults age 50+ remain independent and connected in our community. Volunteer Drivers use their own vehicles to provide safe, reliable transportation to medical appointments, pharmacies, and care facilities in Berlin, Meriden, New Britain, Plainville, Southington, and Wallingford. This role is flexible and impactful—drivers choose rides based on their availability using our easy-to-use scheduling software. Even a small commitment of just two rides per month makes a big difference for older adults who rely on these services to age safely in their own homes. The Berlin-Peck Memorial Library is looking for a creative volunteer to help design and change out their lobby display case each month. Themes are predetermined (ex: poetry, holiday/season, best books, etc.) and supplies are provided. The volunteer will take down the previous month's display and work in coordination with library staff to create and design a new display.
