RACE IN THE PARK
Connecticut Breast Health Initiative
CT BHI will hold their 23rd annual RACE IN THE PARK on May 9th. The day begins with a Survivor Breakfast followed by a 5K, Kids' Fun Run and 4K/1Mile Walk. We will also have Build in the Park by Home Depot, food trucks, raffle, merchandise tent, beer garden and much more! We are looking for help in planning the event as well as volunteer on RACE day. Help in planning the event includes helping to get sponsors, auction/raffle donations, kids events, Survivor Breakfast, PR etc... Kids Clean-Up!

Come join the Southington Land Conservation Trust and KinderWild Nature-Based Play & Learning to learn about how kids can help the Earth and join us as we clean up the pond and surrounding area at Panthorn Park. Bring gloves, a bucket or repurposed bag, and grabbers if you have them. We'll have a limited supply to lend out as well.We'll meet in the clearing just over the bridge by the pond. Earth Day Cleanup

Join us at near the Quinnipiac River to clean up this boat launch area for Earth Day with the SLCT. Bring gloves, grabbers if you have them, water, and a bucket or re-used bag to collect the litter. Nursing Unit Support Volunteer
Hospital for Special Care
The position supports nursing unit staff by assisting with non-urgent patient needs that do not require hands-on care. The role includes checking in with the charge nurse upon arrival, reviewing assignments, and rounding on patients to ensure comfort and address basic needs. Responsibilities include responding to non-urgent call bells, communicating patient requests to nursing staff, and directing urgent or care-related needs to the appropriate clinical team. Volunteers also provide ancillary support by delivering blankets or pillows, retrieving personal items, ensuring call bells are within reach, and helping organize patient belongings when requested. Additional duties may include restocking linen carts, assisting with linen and laundry rotation, answering phones, and relaying accurate messages to staff. The role requires effective communication with patients, families, visitors, and hospital staff, as well as the ability to follow directions, work independently after training, and collaborate with the healthcare team. We have open positions on our Board of Directors. We have 11 meetings a year, a once a month commitment. Being part of the Board includes being committed and dedicated to our mission and to help carry out our mission. A Board member attends monthly Board meetings, volunteers and helps with CT BHI events, is part of at least one committee, helps oversee the organizations financial resources, actively represents and be an advocate for CT BHI in the community etc... As a Grant committee member you would help solicit request for proposals (RFPs) from around the state for breast cancer research projects, read proposals, make recommendations to the Board based on our criteria and budget, helps plans our grants awards event (SMARTY PARTY). Our committee consists of educators, survivors, physicians, nurses, other volunteers etc.. The CT Breast Health Initiative is a statewide non profit committed to raising funds for Connecticut breast cancer research. We know research is the answer to cancer! 100% of the monies raised in Connecticut stays in Connecticut. The organization relies on many volunteers to make a difference locally in the fight against breast cancer. These are our opportunities: 1. BOARD OF DIRECTORS - rewarding positions giving direction to our mission. 11 meetings, once a month commitment. 2. GRANTS Committee - Solicits RFPs from around the state for breast cancer research projects, reads proposals, makes recommendations to the Board based on our criteria and budget, plans grant awards event. (SMARTY PARTY) Committee consists of educators, survivors, physicians, nurses, other volunteers, etc. 4. CT RACE IN THE PARK: the largest and most visible fundraiser. Volunteers needed for Sponsors, Volunteer Management, Kids events, Merchandise sales, Auction/Raffle, Survivor Breakfast, PR, etc. 5. PAR TEA: volunteers need for planning and implementing a 9 hole all female golf tournament fundraiser followed by Afternoon Tea with a known speaker. 6. EVENTS: solicit outside organizations to fundraise for CT BHI and to liaison with and promote those who reach out to us to fundraise across the state.
