The position supports nursing unit staff by assisting with non-urgent patient needs that do not require hands-on care. The role includes checking in with the charge nurse upon arrival, reviewing assignments, and rounding on patients to ensure comfort and address basic needs. Responsibilities include responding to non-urgent call bells, communicating patient requests to nursing staff, and directing urgent or care-related needs to the appropriate clinical team. Volunteers also provide ancillary support by delivering blankets or pillows, retrieving personal items, ensuring call bells are within reach, and helping organize patient belongings when requested. Additional duties may include restocking linen carts, assisting with linen and laundry rotation, answering phones, and relaying accurate messages to staff. The role requires effective communication with patients, families, visitors, and hospital staff, as well as the ability to follow directions, work independently after training, and collaborate with the healthcare team.
