Food Sorting Volunteer

Description

As a volunteer, you’ll be helping to inspect and sort food items to ensure they’re safe and ready for distribution. This activity involves standing and some light lifting (up to 30 lbs), so we recommend wearing comfortable clothing you can move around in.

We ask that all volunteers wear school- or casual work-appropriate attire — t-shirts, jeans, and shorts (about 3–5 inches above the knee) are all great options. To keep everyone safe, completely closed, sturdy shoes are required — think sneakers or work shoes. Please avoid Crocs, clogs, sandals, or anything with open toes. We’ll provide gloves to use during your shift.

To help keep everyone healthy, we kindly ask that you only attend if you’re feeling well. If you’re experiencing symptoms like a fever, cough, sore throat, or stomach issues, please stay home and rest.

Young volunteers are always welcome!

  • Ages 12–15 must volunteer with a parent or guardian

  • Ages 16 and up are welcome to join us independently

Ready to jump in? To register as a volunteer, please visit our website: https://www.ctfoodshare.org/volunteer. Just create a volunteer profile and select the dates and times that work best for you — we’ll take it from there!
